BOOKING PROCEDURESThe bulk of CLC programme is organised atleast a term in advance. While there are occasional rooms free on occasional days, it is best to book as far in advance as possible for individual events and individual requests from schools. Primary SchoolsWorkshops are advertised to primary schools through iWiSch on a first come first served basis. Teachers are expected to attend a pre-visit. This pre-visit ensures matched expectations and provided opportunity to the teacher to partner the workshops. Management of technology and e-safety CPD support is provided to head teachers and senior managers on a one to one basis and at dates and times suitable to the school. The venue is usually the CLC itself. Secondary and Special SchoolsThe CLC is a major LA partner in the provision of support for the BAF and IT 14-19 Diplomas. The centre is booked a year in advance in agreement with the Diploma Development Group line leaders. The CLC additionally provides individual consultative support to assist secondary schools in the roll out of technology for learning and teaching across all subject areas. This support can include school site based work with pupils using the latest technology. Heads of faculties can email michaelmcmanus@discoveryclc.co.uk with requests for support. Secondary Schools have found it useful to make use of the CLC for whole day bookings to complete coursework (e.g., moving students from D to C), to take up extension activities for gifted and talented pupils, or to partake in enhanced learning projects. In recent times pupil visits to the CLC have been reduced to the restrictions imposed on learning outside of school boundaries by the ‘rarely cover’ policy. With respect to the CLC’s enhanced learning projects, CLC staff are now carrying out the work in schools. Our current projects are RoboCup Robotics; Slo-mo camera curriculum contributions in P.E., Drama, Dance and Science; Geography and environmental field work support using GPS, GIS, Aegis 3, Google Earth, PDAs, Mobile Phone Technology and Fizzbooks. Primary, Secondary and Special SchoolsTeachers are trained in using the CLC’s Star Lab Planetarium so that it can be loaned to schools on a weekly basis.
