ABOUT THE CLC

The Discovery City Learning Centre

The Discovery City Learning Centre is a large state of the art building based at Noctorum, near Birkenhead, Wirral. The centre has extensive IT facilities. These facilities are available for use by learners and teachers from primary and secondary schools on the Wirral and members of the community. There are opportunities for schools outside of Wirral LA to benefit from the CLC services. These schools pay for the use of the facilities and staff expertise.

We share a site with Ridgeway High School. We are independent from the school with our own facilities and team of people who make sure that the centre operates smoothly and professionally.

The Centre offers media activities across all subject areas. Primary Science is provided as a specialism due to our original dual level Science Laboratory which caters for primary school learners and adults alike. There is a full program of primary science technology activities.

Nationally

There are 103 City Learning Centres established in England in operation for some six to nine years. The centres are based in urban areas and each is attached to a ‘host’ school. The centres are of varying sizes and operate on a widely differing basis depending on their relationship to the host school and local authority. All centres have a shared common purpose, that is, to improve pupil attainment and standards of teaching through the use of technology. This purpose is met through a variety of successful school, local and central government partnerships.
